Callanish View is perfectly situated to enable you to explore the sites of Lewis and Harris, with easy access to hill-walking, fishing, beaches, wildlife, historical sites and much more.

The historic Callanish Stones are about a mile away from the house.  There is a café, shop and post office situated next to the stones.

 

There are numerous beaches around Lewis and Harris, you really will be spoiled for choice!  The closest to Callanish View is Dail Mòr, which is about a ten minute drive away, and Dàil Beag, which is a further 5 minutes drive.  

 

A five minute walk to the rear of the house will take you to Loch Bharabhat, a fresh water trout loch where you can enjoy some fishing, a relaxing walk or some bird watching.

 

There are plenty of lovely walking routes around Callanish itself and the rest of the island.  Whether your interest is hill climbing or if you would prefer a more leisurely walk, there is something for all levels and interests.  

 

The main town of Stornoway is about a 20 minute drive from Callanish.  With lots of lovely little shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and supermarkets, Stornoway is the main hub of the island.  The stunning Lews Castle is a must-see, and the Castle Grounds boast a selection of picturesque walkways, cycle tracks and view points overlooking Stornoway harbour and the town centre. 

 

Uig is a 25-30 minute drive from Callanish and has some of the most beautiful beaches in Lewis.  There is also a mini-market, café and restaurant.  You can book a boat trip or enjoy some water sports whilst soaking up the amazing scenery of the area.

 

A 40 minute drive will take you to the Isle of Harris, which arguably boasts some of the most spectacular beaches in the world, such as Luskentyre, Seilebost and Huisinish.  Visit Tarbert where you can visit the local shops, buy some Harrist Tweed or visit the Isle of Harris Distillery where you can enjoy a tour of the distillery, some gin tasting or buy a bottle of the world-famous Isle of Harris gin.
